I texted my mom and Mimi this picture and said “All I need is a full front porch and someone to talk about.”
I used to look forward to the second weekend in June so I could eat the entire flat of two-bite brownies at our family reunion in Georgia every year. I didn’t realize until later you can get these delectable morsels from Sams, or better yet, make them at home.
I decided I needed to bake some for my sweet tooth and the nostalgia of my GA family reunion. I popped them out of the tray still hot and took a bite. Even better than I remember. The taste flooded my brain with memories of our family reunion in Georgia.
Every seat on the lake-facing front porch was full by the time I woke up. The bench swing that squeaked louder every year, the rocking chairs that sanded the paint off on the porch floor with every forward and backward motion, and the Adirondack chairs and bench. Slap full of extended family that drove in for a weekend on the lake together.
The screened-in porch was also full of brewed coffee, conversations about those who weren’t there, and delicious breakfast options. The dessert table was conveniently placed right by the front door, it too was full. Mennonite bakery goods, homemade treats, and anything that looked appetizing during the several grocery store runs.
I rarely switched my breakfast plate up; two, two-bite brownies and two two-bite cinnamon rolls. A meal that absolutely will not keep me full – half of the point. Lunch was just around the corner and Lord knows I wasn’t missing an opportunity to gorge myself on that.
I ought to call them fellowship brownies because that’s what they symbolize to me. If you make them, enjoy over a hot coffee with a friend.
