Why I Started Foster Slow Living

Hi, I’m Scout Foster, a maiden Baker still trying to get used to my new last name. I married my high school sweetheart (kinda… IYKYK) in October 2023 at the most perfect venue in east Texas, Margot Hill. Our marriage was celebrated with a mechanical bull, blow-up cow costumes, and 120 of our closest friends and family from all over the United States and Canada.

During college, I blogged weekly about life in west Texas and college rodeoing. I loved the connections made through writing and interviewing. A lot has changed since my last blog 2 long years ago but the desire to write and share creatively has not. I decided to rebrand Git-Em Up, Scout to Foster Slow Living to reflect who I am now.

We settled in the piney woods of east Texas after graduating to raise chickens, garden, and raise Brahman and rodeo cattle with my uncle, in hopes of one day having our own operation. I appreciate a labor of love, the art of growing your food, homemade baked goods, and slowing down for quality. I’m grateful we can live a little slower in our corner of the world.

To me, Foster Slow Living means to live intentionally. To cultivate a lifestyle that prioritizes moments, stepping back from the fast-paced, hectic nature of modern life to embrace a mindful and deliberate approach to living.

A few things I love:
1. Enjoying every note of hot coffee and the birds that bounce around the pecan trees.
2. Snail Mail. I love sending thank you cards, birthday cards, and get well soon cards, but Christmas cards are at the top of my favorites list.
3. Hospitality. Investing time and energy into relationships with friends, family, and community around good food and drinks.

If you like nonfiction books, coffee, animals of all kinds (except cats), and sitting in the sun, come on in:

    Hey, Scout!

So glad you’re “blogging” again! I hope I figure this thing out but if not we are coming to Texas about May 4th and you can straighten me out. Hate to say goodbye to “Git-em Up, Scout” but life goes on and there’s nothing so “constant” as change, I hear. See you soon!

    Love y’all!
